SGI develops, markets and sells a broad line of low-cost, mid-range and high-end scale-out and scale-up
servers and data storage solutions as well as differentiating software.
SGI pioneered Eco-Logical data center design with innovative technologies in the areas of chassis and cabinet
design, power distribution techniques and hardware-based remote management capabilities.
SGI offer compute servers using their half-depth design, enabling back-to-back mounting for higher server
density and improved thermal management.
SGI Pioneering the Mobile Data Center
Workgroup
SGI Workgroup Computing Systems
IT organizations are increasingly faced with solving the compute and storage infrastructure challenges associated with deployments at the workgroup and remote office levels. SGI, in conjunction with its channel partners, offers two products specifically designed for the workgroup space:
Origin 400
Integrated blade system for Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) workloads with up to six dual-socket blades
and 14 high-performance SAS drives. Origin 400 was designed for virtualization and is ideal for a wide
number of applications ranging from Microsoft Exchange to Oracle and MySQL databases
Octane III
Personal supercomputer for technical computing workloads, with up to 120 Intel Xeon 5600 cores in a
compact, deskside pedestal form factor. Octane III combines the immense power and performance capabilities
of a high-performance cluster with the portability and usability of a workstation to enable a new era of
personal innovation in strategic science, research, development and visualization.
Servers
SGI (Rackable) Rackmount Servers
SGI's award-winning, patented back-to-back mounting techniques have become the hallmark of their offerings and
are made possible by their unique rack designs. Available in 22U, 36U, 40U and 44U sizes, their rackmount cabinets
hold up to 88 half-depth servers to attain industry-leading density levels. Their racks are also compatible with
their storage offerings and their standard-depth server designs. Systems come fully racked, stacked and cabled
for easy deployment, while front-facing I/O speeds serviceability and maintenance.
Rack Layout
* Half-depth servers and storage mount back-to-back for maximum density
* I/O in front and clean cabling reduces maintenance time by up to 75%
* Unobstructed central air plenum provides superior ventilation
* High efficiency power supply options tuned for best efficiency
* Passive cooling design yields highest reliability
* Rack ducting options can even eliminate generated heat from the data center
* Also available for standard-depth systems for traditional hot aisle/cold aisle environments
Storage
Data-intensive Storage Solutions
SGI offers a full line of state-of-the-art disk storage systems to meet a broad range of needs, including:-
* File Serving - InfiniteStorage File Serving
* RAID Platforms - InfiniteStorage 200, 4100, 4600, 5000, 6120, 15000, 16000 and SP Line
* MAID Platforms - (Massive Array of Idle Disks) COPAN 400 & COPAN 300
* EBOD Platforms - InfiniteStorage 2224, 2116, 1124 & 1116
* Storage Servers - InfiniteStorage Server 3500
* Storage Management - LiveArc Digital Asset Management, DMF Tier Virtualisation, XFS Filesystem & XVM Volume Manager
Data Center
Eco-Logical Data Centers
SGI designs the most reliable and energy-efficient servers and storage, coupled with simplified
serviceability and management. We focus on the data center as well and make sure all our solutions
address power capacity, space constraints and application usage of the modern data center. In today's
world, the data center can be a typical brick-and-mortar building, but also be mobile and modular.
The ICE Cube - built around a standard ISO 20- and 40-foot shipping container, allows mobility.
The new ICE Cube Air - offers the ability to stand up a new data center in weeks versus months and
to start as small as an eight-foot container for four racks and expand to data centers of more
than four megawatts in power usage.
The Mobirack - extends this mobility to an even smaller footprint that can be wheeled from place to place.
Finally, they offer racks, power solutions, cabinetry, and remote monitoring hardware
and software to complete the data center infrastructure.
Cloud Computing
HPC Cloud Computing Environments
Organizations that rely on HPC resources are increasingly investigating cloud computing as a solution that offers additional computing capacity and flexibility. Clouds reduce or eliminate altogether the need to make incremental long-term, often costly hardware and infrastructure investments. To date, cloud solutions have been primarily focused on running important business applications like CRM, ERP, email and other database programs.
Cyclone, SGI's cloud computing offering for technical applications capitalizes on over twenty years of SGI HPC expertise. It specifically addresses the growing science and engineering markets that rely on high-end computational hardware, software and networking equipment to achieve rapid results.
Cyclone - the world's first large scale on-demand cloud computing service specifically dedicated to technical applications
