eCLOUD - Business Continuity
Not all data is the same! Dynamic application data has more criticality than static file data, and current
active data can be more important than historical archive data. Despite this, many backup and DR systems
handle all data in the same way and often only address certain data sources so you need to buy multiple
systems to protect everything.
|
|
Flexible
Data Management Services from EssentialNET can capture ALL data, at source and differentiate,
by type and by criticality. We can replicate from any systems, running on any physical hardware,
in any virtualised environment, at any location and pass the data to our protected data center.
We can manage your Backups, Archiving, Replication, DR and BC all from a single system.
Safe
InMage software captures data the moment it is written to disk so your data is safely replicated the
instant it is created. Once captured, it is moved off your production systems protecting them from
the processing overhead and additional workload imposed by other backup or replication systems.
The data is then carefully and securely bundled and transmitted, using WAN optimisation, back to our
Enterprise grade data center where it is securely stored drive-for-drive to create an operational
recovery set of your applications and data.
Your production systems are kept synchronised with this operational recovery environment, silently
and efficiently in the background, constantly monitored and fully managed.
Fast
For us, fast means the shortest possible time between the RPO (Point of failure) and the RTO (Time of recovery).
EssentialNET Data Management Services, using InMage software, captures data as soon as it's written and sends
it optimised over the WAN, straight to an operational recovery system in the Cloud.
In the time it takes the data to get from one end to the other, it is ready to be used, cutting the RPO to
seconds or minutes.
Because it is being stored directly in a usable form, it is ready to be recovered, restored or failed over
to in the event of a problem also cutting the RTO to seconds or minutes.
You could lose a server or a whole data center and your users would simply fail over to the EssentialNET
recovery system seamlessly in a few minutes, for a low monthly management fee.
Always On
No system can be protected from all of the disasters that might befall the software, kit, power, building or
site, that it is running in. By replicating all of your systems offsite in a recovery-ready state, you are
ensuring that your users can access every system all of the time. Consistency points is the key to ensuring
that the data you are replicating is instantly usable and InMage has many more consistency points than any
other offering on the market.
EssentialNET Data Management Service protecting applications as well as data, capturing writes to disk in
real time, keeping recovery servers in sync and providing the industry's only truly application consistent
failover technology, gives you the peace of mind that your systems can be ALWAYS ON!

Single Server
Protect your most important Server
For many organisations, all of the business applications and the critical data is sat on a
single server, which forms the heart of your IT infrastructure.
Protecting the systems and information that enable the organisation to function
therefore comes down to how well that server is protected and, if it should fail, how quickly
can it be restored. Unfortunately, the traditional approaches to backup and recovery do not provide
the level of protection and speed of recovery that is needed in today's fast moving business environment.
If the server fails,
a replacement server needs to be acquired, the OS needs to be loaded and the applications that were running
on the server need to be re-installed. All necessary patches, updates and service packs need to be added to
get the server back to the state it was in when it failed then the data needs to be restored. It doesn't
end there however, the applications then need to be put back into sync with the data so that they will start
running again. The time it will take you to do all of this work, will determine the "Recovery Time Objective" (RTO)
and, depending on whether you have a spare server lying around, it can take days.
|
If the data that was on the server is lost or corrupted, then you will need to restore it from whatever backup
you last took. The typical technology for backing data up is still tape and, as long as the nightly routine was
run the previous evening (and as long as that re-used tape restores correctly, which 42% do not!), then you
will only have lost the work done since that backup and the failure. If the tape does fail to reload, then you
will have to resort to the taps from the evening before that. So, you are dependent on a manual process
involving archaic technology to determine the point at which you can recover back to, known as the "Recovery
Point Objective" (RPO) and, this can also run into days.
|
|
The true measure of lost work, plus lost work time, is therefore the amount of time between the RPO,
the point you can recover to and the RTO, the time it takes you to get everything running again.
If the RPO and RTO combine to leave the business unable to function properly for 2, 3 or 4 days how will that
impact your business?
Direct Attached Recovery from EssentialNET
EssentialNET have combined the innovative real-time replication capabilities of InMage Software
with the intelligent storage features of the QNAP Turbo NAS.
|
This sturdy desktop size unit simply plugs directly in to the Server that needs protecting. No other
network setup is needed and it doesn't interfere with any other production systems.
The single instance InMage DR Scout software creates an exact copy of the server including the
Operating System, Service Packs Updates and Applications. It also creates a drive onto which it places
a copy of the data from the main server. In this way, you will have a backup copy, not only of your
data but also of the server itself.
|
|
It doesn't end there however, once the copy exists, it need to be kept in sync with the main server and
this is where the incredible replication features of the InMage software come into play. Every single
write-to-disk is copied as it happens, with practically no impact on the speed and functioning of the server.
Each write is then timestamped and, where appropriate, application consistency points are inserted.
The data is simultaneously written onto the QNAP Drive, complete with the consistency points and this
provides you with a unique recovery system.
|
If you lose a single file, or folder, you can restore it quickly and easily. Better yet, you can
'rewind' the contents to any specific moment in time and restore it as it appeared at that time.
This is perfect for seeking the point at which specific work was done, or tracking back through
versions of a document.
If the server fails, you simply plug the QNAP into a new server (bare metal) and it will restore
the entire system to the point at which it failed, in a fraction of the time it would take you to
do it all manually.
|
|
So, if you currently run all of your applications and data off a single server, and you'd like to continuously
protect that server, as well as be able to restore individual files and recover your entire system in minutes,
then contact EssentialNET and ask about Direct Attached Recovery.
Multiple Servers
Simplify Backup, Replication and Recovery
For many organisations, the scale and complexity of their server infrastructure turns the task of
protecting their applications and data into a time-consuming and expensive distraction.
EssentialNET Data Management solutions help to make backup, recovery, and general data
availability procedures easier to manage and more cost effective across your entire server
infrastructure.
InMage Scout, at the heart of EssentialNET Data Management Services, continuously captures data
changes in real time as they occur and performs local backup or remote replication simultaneously
with a single data stream. It offers instantaneous and granular recovery of data locally and enables
push-button application level failovers to remote sites to meet local backup and/or remote DR
requirements, thus going above and beyond the protection offered by conventional replication backup
and failover automation products alone.
The software collects data changes from production servers as they occur, directly in memory before
they are written to disk, and sends them to a software appliance called the InMage Scout Server.
Due to this approach, there is absolutely no additional I/O load induced on production servers due
to backup and/or replication. The server is responsible for further off-loading compute intensive
tasks from production systems, such as compression, encryption, WAN acceleration and consolidated
bandwidth management. In addition, it also provides centralized management, monitoring and reporting
capabilities. This approach allows for very large data sets and applications to be protected while
minimizing the effect on production and network resources. From the InMage Scout Server, a single
stream of data can be backed up to a local repository, while simultaneously replicating to a remote
target for DR purposes. Many to 1 replication support offers the option of remote office data
protection configurations that minimize tape infrastructure and manual involvement in locations
that may not have access to sophisticated backup expertise.
Application consistency is enforced at regular intervals through VSS integration on Windows and
native application specific mechanisms on Linux and Solaris systems. Application consistency is
also enforced at the guest level in virtual environments such as VMware ESX, Xen Server and Hyper-V.
These application consistent points are tagged by a bookmark and archived as part of the CDP data.
They can be leveraged to perform application consistent recoveries within stringent recovery time
objectives.
Highlights

Remote Servers
Centralise and Consolidate your Backups
For many organisations, the job of protecting the content of servers is made even more complicated
by the fact that they are scattered around the country, or the world, at remote sites.
EssentialNET leverages the advantages of disk-based data protection to provide application-aware
recovery that can meet remote and/or local requirements.
Organisations today have demanding requirements
for backup, recovery and data availability. Many organisations do not have skilled IT resources or
the same level of backup infrastructure at remote sites, which results in unreliable or inconsistent
backups. Backing up data at remote locations requires dedicated infrastructure and IT
expertise at each site. This increases storage infrastructure and storage management costs.
Leveraging advanced replication technology from InMage systems allows EssentialNET to
implement centralised backup across
an entire distributed environment and replicate defined data
sets from remote sites back to a central location for backup purposes.
So, if you have servers located in remote sites and you'd like to centralise your backups,
then contact EssentialNET and ask about our Data Management Services.
Virtual Servers
Truly unified protection for virtual environments
For many organisations, the server infrastructure itself is virtualised and this brings with it
a mind-boggling array of complications and a need for new technological approach to backup,
replication and recovery.
Using the ground breaking InMage vContinuum software solution, EssentialNET provides a unified solution
for Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) of VMware ESX/vSphere virtual machine (VM) environments.
InMage vContinuum’s block-level asynchronous replication and host-offload architecture is designed
for near zero impact on production VMs and to provide scalability for mid-tier and enterprise virtual
environments. Built-in compression and WAN acceleration over cost effective IP networks allow you to
maintain strict recovery point objectives (RPO), while reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).
Further, InMage vContinuum does not depend on any underlying hardware and storage features to
accomplish this. It can extend Backup and DR solutions to physical servers through a seamless upgrade
to InMage Scout, thus offering a consistent approach to protect, manage and recover virtual and
physical environments.
Highlights
* Backup quickly, reliably and continuously with absolutely NO backup windows
* Replicate to remote sites with near zero RPO and best-in-class RTO
* Push button failover to remote sites for speedy Disaster Recovery
* Scalable host off-load architecture with very low I/O impact on production VMs
* Instantaneous application consistent and granular recoveries
* Minimize target storage requirements with Sparse Retention and capacity optimizations
* Seamless upgrade to protect both Virtual and Physical environments
So, if you have a virtualised server infrastructure and you want to know how to completely automate every
aspect of it,
